SECTION 10

10.            Transfers/Shuttles

10.1.        General

10.1.1.

The shuttle drive unit location shall be determined in Design with AZ Automotive Process Engineering approval.

10.1.2.

The type of power system for each transfer shall require the User's written approval prior to the completion of equipment design.

10.1.3.

To facilitate shipping and installation, the shuttle shall be split into segments. All break points must be keyed and identified. Each splice joint shall be identified for reassembly.

10.1.4.

Moving rails shall be a minimum of 1" x 4" bar stock, Sheffield steel or equivalent.

10.1.5.

Shuttle design must provide accessibility for service and removal of drive unit and/or drive components.

10.1.6.

Positive stops are required on both the forward and return strokes of the shuttle. These stops shall be heeled.

10.1.7.

All transfer systems must use sealed pre-lubricated bearings.

10.1.8.

Limit and/or proximity switches shall be used for all Rail motions, as well as shuttle drive device motions.

10.1.9.

All transfer systems shall be equipped with circuitry to allow for automatic resumption of cycle after a cycle interruption has occurred. This feature shall provide for resumption of motion, in the original direction of travel, without the need for manual intervention or manipulation of shift register information.

10.2.        Lift and Carry Shuttle

10.2.1.

The shuttle rails shall be guided and supported by standard roller clusters.

10.2.2.

The main drive pinion and shaft shall be splined.

10.2.3.

The Supplier shall calculate the power requirements of the drive units, which shall have 1.5 minimum safety factor.

10.2.4.

On Lift and Carry Shuttles the Supplier shall provide one complete list of spare components at 100% design approval used in each drive unit, which shall consist of the following:

A. (4) Self-Aligning Bearings.

B. (2) Racks.

C. (2) Gears.

D. (1) Drive Shaft with Bearings.

E. (2) Counter Balance Cylinders.

10.2.5.

The Supplier shall provide an automatic lubricating system for the electromechanical drives, where necessary.

10.3.        Reciprocating Shuttle

10.3.1.

Design requirements for each shuttle shall include, but are not limited to, the following:

10.3.2.

The shuttle shall be of rack and pinion design and driven by a hydraulic motor, using an AZ Automotive approved hydrostatic drive.

10.3.3.

The Supplier shall furnish an AZ Automotive approved hydrostatic drive and motor with the approved fluid.

10.3.4.

The Supplier shall calculate the power and volume requirements of the hydrostatic drives and hydraulic motors, which shall be reviewed and approved by an AZ Automotive Design Coordinator and AZ Automotive.

10.3.5.

The hydraulic motor and main drive pinion and shafts shall be splined.

10.3.6.

The Supplier shall provide complete spare parts list consisting of the following at 100% design approval:

A. (1) Hydraulic Motor

B. (4) Self-aligning Bearings

C. (2) Racks

D. (2) Gears

E. (1) Shaft

10.3.7.

The Supplier is responsible for providing and coordinating the installation of the hydrostatic drive transfer where applicable. This responsibility shall include the primary and the back-up hydrostatic drive systems, conveyor rail sections, all stops, positioners, system controls, limit switches, etc.

10.4.        Lifter Controls

See Section 16.10
